1301PE is pleased to present an exhibition by Rirkrit Tiravanija and SUPERFLEX. As one of the most important artists of his generation, Tiravanija has radically changed the way art is proposed and apprehended. His work epitomizes a refreshing openness in art practice, blurring the distinctions between process and finished work, between art work and its various contexts and, above all, between art and its audience. In their projects, SUPERFLEX, Rasmus Nielsen, Jakob Fenger and Bjornstjerne Christiansen, provide tools that are based on their specific interest in social and economic commitment. The starting point for creating a tool is a belief in a heterogeneous, complex society. The set-up is developed in co-operation with diverse experts who, in turn, add their own specific interests. It can then be taken over and put into operation by various users. The tools invite people to do something: to become active. Tools are framed by and shaped in specific social and local situations and generate their meanings out of this specific context.
Social Pudding: the piece originated out of a dialogue between Rirkrit and SUPERFLEX that was initiated on the occasion of joint exhibitions at the Galerie fur Zeitgenossische Kunst in Leipzig in January 2003. Rather than explore a "fabric of society," this project is interested in the "pudding of society," with different programs related to pudding and the social and the putting together of business, personal and everyday activities.
